Marty Robertson

Martin 'Marty' Robertson, born and raised on the remote Scottish Island of Skye. Hiking around the snow covered hills behind his house on old skate decks. It wasn't What's long before he was travelling & competing across the world for well over a decade as part of the British snowboard team. With a huge passion for surfing it definitely shows in his riding style and approach. That with a big bag of tricks, the art of making good turns and painting incredible lines down mountains is what it's all about.

How did your journey begin?

It all started with a skateboard when I was 7 or 8 years old. Skateboarding led me into snowboarding and surfing. Growing up as a kid in the western isles of Scotland, I was never the kid who stayed inside playing video games. In fact, I’ve never even owned a games console. When the winter came around my friends and I would take the trucks and wheels off our skateboards and we would play for hours on the hill behind my house in the snow. We would build jumps and try all kinds of tricks. Sheep became obstacles to jump over. A few years later my parents took the family on a ski trip to Andorra and I tried snowboarding properly. I got a real snowboard that Christmas and that thing slept in bed with me for a few years! Soon after I was traveling, training and competing across the world as a member of the British snowboard team.

What inspires you?

I draw inspiration from many things. Nature mostly, just being outside in the mountains and ocean. Fresh air in my lungs, seeing new places, travelling. There are a few athletes in surfing and snowboarding that I really look up to. I follow closely what they're doing and how they are bettering themselves and put that into practice for myself. Even just browsing through Instagram I'll see something that inspires me and I want to emulate what I’ve just ‘double tapped’! Staying hungry to always be creative and to push myself, to better myself is something I always strive for. I’m a total perfectionist and my own worst critic.

What motivates you?

My family has always been super supportive and motivated me. Snowboarding and surfing are always progressing and I find that super motivating. To always push yourself and boundaries. Always striving for more, to be better.
